Three commanding pelicans full of grace,
hail on Mary,
rule the water at dawn,
waves crashing in,
calming and ever so peaceful,
off in the big tower,
when the rulers of the hamlet spit fire,
squabbling,
petrohogs,
smogmobiles,
gasguzzlers,
spring birdsong
smells of renewal
I see the souls of people
through their eyes,
ahhhh
to love more,
to fear less,
the pelicans lead now
koot ducks a close second,
kids’ laughter
speaks volumes,
wake up
or
sleep
through,
either way
the grounded
waterfowl
afloat and
fishing
living for now
model the way.
Are we awake,
listening,
paying attention?
